Growing up, my parents always told us a rhyme when it came to presents. They’d say on Christmas morning we’d get, “Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read.”
I’ve put together some gift picks that would please any fitness fanatic lucky enough to receive them. From running gear to healthy snacks, here are this season’s must-haves and potential gifts for friends or family.
1. Something You Want
Like many gym rats, I like to wear my Apple Watch all the time. But when I get home from a workout, it’s nice to switch to a less sporty band or, if I’m going out to dinner, wear a nicer band.
2. Something You Need
Sometimes it feels like I physically cannot start the day without either tea or coffee. A higher-end matcha is perfect for a Christmas gift — healthy and caffeinated, and something that even a tea enthusiast may not splurge on for themselves.
(Pssst — it has 137 times the antioxidants of regular green tea!)
3. Something to Wear
Tracksmith Brighton Base Layer
Because I like to do HIIT in the park and go on long training runs, I need a good base layer that’s not super heavy. This Tracksmith long sleeve is definitely a treat-yourself-right kind of gift. (My favorite color is spice!)
4. Something to Read
Endure: Mind, Body, and the Curiously Elastic Limits of Human Performance by Alex Hutchinson is my top pick this year. I’m obsessed with books about athletes enduring intense trials and tribulations before conquering these amazing feats. Not only is it a fascinating read, it’s great motivation.
For runners, though, I recommend any of Scott Jurek’s novels, including North: Finding My Way While Running the Appalachian Trail. Plus, you can get both of these in audiobook form and listen to them while running or working out!
